Atlanta, GA - Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin swept both races of the Suzuki Superbike Showdown at Road Atlanta in Braselton, Georgia today and increased his series lead to 42 points with just one double-header to run.

The points tally is the best he could hope for heading into the final round of the AMA Chevrolet Superbike Championship at Virginia International Raceway in two weeks time.

The Australian leads Jake Zemke with 532 compared to 490 points with Miguel Duhamel third on 477 and Ben Bostrom fourth with 364.

Mladin credited two factors for his success; his ability to get through traffic and “the best GSX-R1000 I’ve ever ridden.”

Second in the mostly-processional race today - at the venue for Suzuki’s GSX-R Cup Final in October - went to American Honda’s Miguel Duhamel with team mate Ben Bostrom third and Erion Honda’s Jake Zemke fourth.

Mladin’s eighth win of the season gives him 32 for his AMA career, two better than Duhamel for the all-time best.

Attack Kawasaki’s Josh Hayes had a solitary run to fifth, a positive result considering his troubles this weekend: Yesterday he crashed hard in the first Superbike race and was still suffering today.

Hooters Suzuki’s John Haner got the better of Triangle Cycles’ Larry Pegram (Yamaha) for seventh.

The battle for eighth went to Corona Extra EBSCO Media Suzuki’s Marty Craggill, the Australian taking over the spot on the final lap with Hooters Suzuki’s Eric Wood up to ninth and Prieto Racing’s Geoff May (Suzuki) dropping to 10th.
