Reno, NV - Before an estimated crowd of 20,000 amassed in downtown Reno, Troy Lee Designs’ Doug Henry once again served notice that he’s one of the championship series’ fastest talents—and one of the biggest threats to win any given event.
Holding off a strong charge by Red Bull KTM’s Jurgen Kunzel, Henry took home his second win of the season (and the third of his AMA Supermoto career) after first getting by TLD Honda teammate—and current series-points leader—Jeff Ward, who grabbed the holeshot and led for three laps.
Nursing a re-aggravated knee injury, Ward bravely—and vainly—tried to keep pace with Henry and Kunzel, yet still managed to pull out a third-place result to stay nine points in front of Kunzel in the title hunt. Meanwhile, Henry’s win helped him jump to fourth in the standings with 66 points.
The rest of the top 10 was filled out by Honda CRF450R-mounted notables Alex Thiebault, Chris Fillmore and Josh Chisum finishing fifth, ninth and tenth, respectively.
Next up on the series’ docket is this coming weekend’s round-five event at Virginia’s South Boston Speedway.
